Navara Overview

The Nissan Navara is the sole offering from the Japanese car major in the pickup segment, which faces stiff competition from the established names like Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. The Nissan Navara is offered in a single variant of single cab version and six variants of double cab versions – E MT, SE MT, SE AT, V AT, VL AT, and VL Plus AT, with five colour options on offer – Earth Brown, Savanna Orange, Tungsten Silver, Diamond Black, and Brilliant White.

Nissan Navara Interior & Features

Like the exterior design, the interior cabin of the Nissan Navara too doesn’t stand out dramatically but looks modern enough to not look boring. The Y-shaped multifunctional steering wheel with silver accents looks a bit premium and upmarket, but the same cannot be said about the very plain looking instrument console behind it.

The black colour for the entire interior theme is well complemented with contrasting silver touches at places. The broad and tongue-shaped centre console has a big 2-Din infotainment system at the centre with a housing for automatic climate control buttons below it and small AC vents at upper corners.

While the Nissan Navara’s cabin is decently equipped with features like cruise control, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and steering mounted audio and bluetooth controls, the lack of a modern touchscreen infotainment system itself makes the cabin look dated and under-equipped.

On the other hand, the cabin is spacious enough for five passengers, while the loading bay too is generous enough with low loading lip.

Navara Exterior

Like the majority of pickup trucks, the Nissan Navara too looks macho and tough, with a raised stance and muscular design. While it doesn’t stand out with an individualistic theme, it still manages to have a handsome road presence.

At the front, the Nissan Navara gets the manufacturer’s traditional three-part grille with thick chrome partitions and block-shaped parallelogram like headlamps, which do possess projector bulbs with inverted L-shaped daytime running LEDs. The fog lamps are encased in chrome housings which add some premium appeal to the front.

The side profile looks conventional, with large doors and high ground clearance accentuating its bulky appeal even more. The door handles and rearview mirrors too are finished in chrome, with the side footsteps, machined alloy wheels and silver roof rails lending it a premium appeal.

At the rear, the Nissan Navara has a simple and clean design with a flat layout for the loading bay gate and vertical tail lamps, which though misses out on LED inserts in them.

Nissan Navara Ride & Handling

The Nissan Navara, in a typical pickup fashion, is designed on a body on frame architecture, and has the presence of independent double-wishbone with stabiliser bar at the front and multi-link at the rear. This suspension, in order to comply with the heavy-duty usage of the Navara, is tuned on a stiffer side, which gives it unconditional off-road manners. However, the stiff setup makes the urban ride quality quite harsh.

Navara Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Nissan Navara is blessed with a 2.5-litre diesel engine, which is available in two states of tune. This engine in the lower V MT, SE MT, SE AT, and V AT variants develop 163 PS of maximum power and 403 Nm of peak torque output. At the same time, in the higher VL AT and VL Plus AT variants, this very engine produces maximum power and torque outputs of 190 PS and 450 Nm respectively. In the lower variants, this engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual, with a 7-speed automatic in higher variants.

Nissan Navara Braking & Safety

The Nissan Navara is equipped with some premium features for a pickup truck, such as front, side, curtain, and knee airbags, around view monitor, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, active brake limited slip, hill start assist, hill descent control and reverse parking sensors.

Navara Verdict

The Nissan Navara, for a traditional pickup truck, follows the conventional root of having a handsome and tough exterior design and an uncompromising attitude when it comes to traversing over tough terrains. However, considering the rising competition, it can be updated with fee more features to make it feel even more modern and upmarket.
